Aneeta Prem CEO Update 7th October 2021

International Trigeminal Neuralgia Awareness Day
7th October 2021

An Update from your CEO ANEETA PREThis is a chance to raise the profile of the most painful condition any human being can suffer from.

Therefore, the 7th of October is a hugely important day because it gives sufferers an opportunity to talk about their pain.

Trigeminal Neuralgia is a hidden disability and needs to be treated with reasonable adjustment, care and love.

TN suffers need to be treated with understanding and support, in an empathetic and thoughtful manner.

Today is a day to spread the word and let friends, family, employees and anyone else you can speak to, to raise awareness of this condition in order that it no longer remains a hidden and undiagnosed

The Trigeminal Neuralgia Guidelines 2021 have just been published. I thought it was important to share this with you. This is a comprehensive guide aimed at professional produced by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Members Fundraising

I was so proud that when we circulated details out to members about

Victoria Woolley running in the London Marathon that you came together and supported her every step of the way. Having spoken to Victoria after the race, the words of encouragement and support of the TNA  family made a real difference to her and spurred her on. When she crossed the line there were tears of joy from us all. The TNA family are incredibly proud of Victoria.
Other people  have also worked hard to raise money and awareness for TNA and recently one of our own Trustees,

Deborah Edwards

and her husband walked from coast to coast across England.

As a sufferer of Trigeminal Neuralgia herself Deborah understands how painful this condition can be. Deborah turned to the TN Association after suffering with TN for 11 years and as a result found The Walton Centre and had successful MVD (brain) surgery in Feb 2017.

TN is a very debilitating illness and one that can leave people feeling very isolated and alone.

Deborah completed her coast-to-coast walk, walking from Bowness-on-Solway on the Cumbrian coast to Tynemouth on the coast of Northumberland. She completed over 100 miles over 7 days. Well-done to Deborah and we are so grateful to her and her husband.

Katharine  Bull

took part in the Hackney Half Marathon after her friend Melissa Geczy was diagnosed with TN three years ago and later she underwent MVD surgery. Unfortunately, this surgery has not alleviated her symptoms.

Kate told us that she ‘

was running in the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday 26th September to raise funds for the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association UK. As I know you are aware, the charity does vital work in raising awareness of TN and continues to offer support to people recently diagnosed with the disease.’

Melissa found the support she received was extremely helpful and reassuring when she first received her diagnosis.

The TNA charity  (many of whom are themselves sufferers) give their time voluntarily. The charity receives no Government or corporate funding but relies solely on donations and membership fees.’

We are here for you

For sufferers, just being able just to be outside and face the wind, rain and air for many of us has been far too hard to endure, but knowing that some suffering with TN pain have been able to achieve so much in our name has been incredible!

We are just so grateful as the donations they have raised will make a tremendous difference to the TN Association and will help to promote  and raise awareness and more ultimately find a cure. We need to do more research in order to reach our goal.

Remember, nobody has to suffer in silence please don’t forget to use the free phone helpline when you need to, our volunteers are willing and ready to accept your calls and for those if you are unable to talk on the phone as we know your pain can be to great, don’t forget you can contact us by email at

We are proposing to hold the TNA AGM on the 20th November so please pencil in that date.

The proposed venue is in London South Kensington.

If any of you are interested in standing for election on to the executive committee or to become a trustee, then please let me have details of your profile/CV showing details of your skills and how you feel you can help move the organisation forward.

I will really look forward to talking to you about this.

We are developing a team of members that are able to help with such things as bid writing, fundraising along with a number of other aspects of helping to promote the charity. We will for the coming year be forming subcommittees to look into a number of areas.
